SANTA CLARA, Calif.
— Former San Francisco 49ers head coach Gary Kubak, who spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders, is now a television analyst for ESPN, the network announced on Monday.
The network said Kubiak will be the first former Super Bowl champion to have an analyst on its flagship sports show.
“I have never been a big sports fan,” Kubak said in a statement.
“But, I always felt that if you can have fun, the NFL is a lot more fun.
The 49ers are a team that I have always watched closely, especially on the road, because they were a team I could get on and play with.”
Kubak joined ESPN in February 2014 and spent the past two seasons as an analyst for the network.
The Raiders will be hosting their Super Bowl 50 celebration on Jan. 6.
The team announced the hire on Monday in a tweet.
Kubak has worked for ESPN since 2005 and is the second-oldest active coach in the network’s history.
